Candyman is an American slasher media franchise about the legend of the "Candyman", the ghost of an artist and son of a slave who was murdered in the late 19th century and who will kill anyone who dared to say his name five times wile looking into the mirror.
The franchise began as a short story, "The Forbidden", by Clive Barker and found the big screen with the movie adaptation Candyman in 1992, which grew out to be a true cult classic. A novelization and a comic adaptation of the film were released in the same year. It was followed by two sequels, Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh and Candyman 3: Day of the Dead in 1995 and 1999 respectively, and it set to be completed with a fourth "spiritual sequel" Candyman, which will be released on September 25, 2020.Candyman is a 1992 horror film written and directed by Bernard Rose, based on the short story "The Forbidden" by Clive Barker (who serves as the film's producer). The plot follows a graduate student named Helen Lyle who does a thesis on the local urban legend of "Candyman", the vengeful spectre of a slave and artist executed by a lynch mob after falling in love with and impregnating a white woman and can be summoned by having his name be repeated five times in front of a mirror.
